Aggrenox: Uses – Side Effects – Warnings

Aggrenox is a combination medicine that contains aspirin and dipyridamole. Aspirin is a pain reliever and fever reducer while dipyridamole is a blood thinner. It is mainly used to prevent strokes in patients who have had transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or mini-strokes. In this article, we will discuss the uses, benefits, side effects, and warnings of Aggrenox.

Uses

Aggrenox is primarily used to prevent strokes in patients who have had TIAs or mini-strokes. TIAs are short-lived symptoms of a stroke that usually last less than 24 hours but can still cause brain damage. Aggrenox is not used to treat a stroke that is already occurring. It should only be used to prevent future strokes in patients who are at risk.

Benefits

Aggrenox works by preventing blood clots from forming in the arteries leading to the brain. Blood clots can cause strokes by blocking blood and oxygen flow to the brain. Aspirin in Aggrenox helps to prevent blood clots by reducing the stickiness of platelets in the blood. Dipyridamole helps to prevent blood clots by dilating blood vessels, which increases blood flow and reduces the risk of clot formation. Using Aggrenox as prescribed helps to reduce the risk of stroke and helps to improve the quality of life of patients.
