Kisqali: Uses – Side Effects – Warnings

Kisqali: Uses, Side Effects, and Warnings

Kisqali (ribociclib) is a prescription medication used in combination with other drugs to treat hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer in women who are in postmenopausal period. It functions by blocking proteins that spur cancer cell growth.

Uses of Kisqali

Kisqali is used in combination with other medications such as letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor, to treat postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer that is either metastatic or locally advanced. It works by inhibiting the progression of cancer cells in the body, thus reducing the spread of cancer.

The medication is usually consumed orally once daily, with or without food according to the prescription of your doctor. As it is a prescription medication, only a doctor can advise you about the appropriate dose and the possible duration of the treatment.

Benefits of Kisqali

Kisqali can provide numerous benefits to women who have advanced breast cancer. The medication is used to treat hormone receptor-positive and HER2-negative breast cancer, which constitutes around 65% of all breast cancers. Kisqali, in combination with other medications, has been found to be effective in treating such cases primarily in postmenopausal women. The combination of ribociclib, letrozole, and goserelin, is efficient in increasing progression-free survival compared to letrozole alone.

Side Effects of Kisqali

Despite the medicine’s benefits, Kisqali can cause some side effects. Some individuals can experience fatigue, nausea, vomiting, fever, headache, bone pain, hair loss, and reduction in white blood cell count. However, not everyone suffers from these side effects, and some people may experience different symptoms.

In order to minimize these side effects, it is crucial to communicate with your pharmacist or doctor and let them know about your complete medical history before using the medication. The doctor or pharmacist might advise further on how to reduce the side effects.

Warnings

Kisqali is a powerful medicine that requires caution when using. Consulting with the healthcare provider about the medication is important, as some people may have unique medical situations that may not align with the correct treatment. Moreover, those taking certain medications may be advised not to take Kisqali, as it can cause severe interactions that lead to additional harm to the body.

If you experience severe side effects such as chest pain, shortness of breath, severe headache, stroke or weakness, it’s important to contact your healthcare provider immediately.
